Weatherite Building - Thames Valley University
Project
Weatherite Building Services (WBS) installed a new £58,000 kitchen ventilation system in the student training kitchen at Thames Valley University in Ealing, London. This project was the seventh installation carried out by WBS at the university and one of the first to include De Kobra’s new Energy Saver™ system which controls ventilation levels.
Solution
The cooking equipment in the production kitchen demanded a very high extract volume. As the kitchen is often used at full capacity, the ventilation system also needed to be highly energy efficient. An installation with demonstrable energy saving capability was a requirement of the University’s Estates department, which has held full Energy Efficiency Accreditation since 2000.
Weatherite recommended “The Energy Saver™ system because, unlike other products, the extract and room supply fan speeds respond automatically and instantaneously when cooking equipment is being used, by sensing not only heat but also smoke and vapour. As well as being reliable and easy to maintain, the system generates a minimum amount of noise and requires less frequent cleaning of the grease filters and ductwork. It can be timed to switch off when the kitchen is closed and has temperature and optic sensors that can detect smoke, providing early warning of possible fire conditions.
