Weatherite Puts New Energy into Thames Valley University

Weatherite Building Services (WBS) has installed a new £58,000 kitchen ventilation system at Thames Valley University in Ealing, London.

WBS have established an extremely successful track record with the university, this being the seventh project they have carried out at Thames Valley. The latest installation of a De Kobra ventilation system in a new student training kitchen was one of the first Weatherite Installations to include De Kobra’s new Energy Saver™ system which controls ventilation levels.

Mike Turton, sales director, WBS, commented: “We were delighted to win a seventh contract at Thames Valley University. The cooking equipment in this production kitchen demands a very high extract volume; however as students may often be using the kitchen at full capacity we were aware that it needed a ventilation system which would be energy efficient. An installation with demonstrable energy saving capability was also a requirement of the University’s Estates department, which has held full Energy Efficiency Accreditation since 2000.

Mr Turton continued: “The Energy Saver™ system was chosen because, unlike other systems, both extract and room supply fan speeds respond automatically and instantaneously when cooking equipment is being used, by sensing not only heat but also smoke and vapour. We are confident that students and teachers will be very pleased with the results.”

As well as being very reliable and easy to maintain, the De Kobra system generates a minimum amount of noise and requires less frequent cleaning of the grease filters and ductwork.

It can also be timed to switch off when the kitchen is closed and has temperature and optic sensors that can detect smoke, providing early warning of possible fire conditions.

WBS is part of the £40 million Weatherite group, one of the UK leaders in air conditioning and air handling equipment.

More recently, WBS has expanded its activities to cover other sectors of the building services market, including heating, ventilation, boiler house refurbishment, water, control systems and electrics, as well as all aspects of commercial air conditioning systems. WBS now offers a single source choice to its customers which includes project management, design, installation and commissioning capabilities.
